Jimmy Kainja is a media scholar, writer, social & political analyst. He is interested in political and social change in sub Saharan Africa, Malawi in particular.
Jimmy is a former lecturer and seminar leader at London Metropolitan University’s Faculty of Applied Social Sciences. He taught undergraduate modules includes: history of the mass media, media in global context, media culture and identity and sociology modules.
Jimmy has written for Guardian Development site: poverty-matters, BBC World News, openDemocracy, Free African Media, African Executive and ActionAid UK’s media team. He has also done news and current affairs analysis at BBC World Service, particularly on Malawi politics, economics and diplomatic relations.
In addition, Jimmy is also one of the bloggers on Africa on the blog and I have written for Malawi news sites: Maravi Post and Nyasatimes. He does a pro bono communications work with a small but very effective UK trust, Nyumba Ya Thanzi, which supports local initiatives for and by Malawians in Senga Bay, Salima, Central Malawi.
